Terms & Conditions

Fences (fences.nz) is an introduction service. Homeowners list fence or lawn space; businesses browse and make contact. That is the whole service.

• We are not a party to any agreement between a homeowner and a business. We don't set the rent, collect it, hold it, or take a cut of it.
• We don't vet listings, signs, or businesses, and we don't guarantee that anyone you meet through Fences will follow through on a deal.
• We are not an agent, broker, landlord, employer, or adviser for either side.

• You must be 18 or older to use Fences.
• Give us accurate details and keep them current. Keep your password to yourself — you're responsible for what happens under your login.
• One account per person or business. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

• You confirm you own the fence (or have the owner's permission — for example, from your landlord if you rent).
• You're responsible for checking that a sign is allowed at your place: council and district-plan signage rules, body-corporate rules, and anything in your tenancy agreement are yours to check, not ours.
• You can decline any approach, at any time, for any reason or none. You never owe anyone an explanation for saying no.
• Money you earn from renting your fence may be taxable income. The deal history in your dashboard is a convenience record only — it is not tax advice. If in doubt, talk to Inland Revenue or an accountant.

• Describe your business truthfully, and only advertise things you may legally advertise. Your signs must comply with the law and the Advertising Standards Authority codes.
• Making, installing, maintaining, and removing the sign — and any damage it causes — is between you and the homeowner.
• A homeowner may decline your approach without giving a reason. Don't try to contact them outside the platform after a decline.

When a negotiation is agreed, we reveal each party's contact and payment details to the other so you can complete the arrangement directly. From that point:

• Payment of the rent, and chasing it, is entirely between the two of you.
• Each side handles their own tax, insurance, and legal obligations.
• If a deal goes wrong, we can't enforce it for you — though we'd like to know if someone behaved badly (see “Reporting” below).

• Browsing is free. Contacting, negotiating, and messaging require a subscription (current prices are shown at checkout). Billing is handled by Stripe.
• You can cancel any time from the billing page; your access runs to the end of the period you've paid for. We don't give partial refunds for unused time unless the law requires it.
• We may change prices, with notice to you before your next renewal.

Don't use Fences to:

• post anything false, misleading, offensive, or illegal;
• scrape, harvest, or republish listings or member details;
• harass anyone — including repeatedly approaching someone who has declined or asked you to stop;
• work around the platform's privacy protections (for example, trying to pinpoint a fence's address before a deal is agreed).

We may remove listings or content, and suspend or close accounts, where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken.

Every listing has a “report” option. If something looks wrong — a fake listing, an inappropriate photo, a scam — report it and we'll take a look. You can also email us at the address below.

You own the photos and text you post. By posting, you give us a licence to display them on Fences (including the automatically blurred versions we show publicly) for as long as your listing or profile is live.

Fences is provided as-is. To the maximum extent the law allows, we're not liable for losses arising from deals made (or not made) through the platform, from other users' conduct, or from the service being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits rights you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where those apply.

• We may update these terms; if the change matters we'll flag it on the site or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Fences means you accept the updated terms.
• These terms are governed by New Zealand law.
• Privacy is covered separately in our Privacy Policy.
